The Schoop brothers: Tapping into their brotherhood, family and love for Sta. Maria City.

Family and brotherhood are the most important values for Sharlon and Jonathan Schoop. For the past three, both brothers have been playing years for the Baltimore Orioles. Jonathan has been playing in the Major Leagues and Sharlon for the Triple A. Both look back to a successful 2016, where Sharlon was called up as a standby in the Major Leagues for three days, increasing his future chances for a permanent spot on the roster. If this happens, it would be the first time in our history that two brothers will play for the same Major League team.

n a well secured Tio Daou ballpark, the Baseball Week ended with a thrilling Homerun Derby. The local favorite and “Homerun King” of Japan, Wladimir ‘Coco’ Balentien went to battle with the Dutch star Kalian Sams and Jonathan Schoop of the Baltimore Orioles.

The Baseball Week is full in swing and in addition to the sporting activities that take place at the Tio Daou Ballpark, much attention is given to the game itself. The DABA – Dutch Antilles Baseball Academy – founded by Hensley Meulens, kicked off the week by inviting Hunter Pence of the San Francisco Giants as a keynote speaker at their fundraiser.
